Mill Gill Force at Askrigg, Wensleydale. Photo: Jim Hutchinson. In the afternoon we met at Ballowfields Nature Reserve below Haw Bank on the Carperby Road 3 miles east of Askrigg. We took the path up by Eller Beck past the waterfall examining the fossils in the Middle Limestone as we went along.

Mill Gill Force The route to Mill Gill takes you through the village of Askrigg, over meadow and up through woodland. Park in the small car park on the way into Askrigg from Carperby or by the Church. (Also worth a visit!) There are honesty boxes for donations which help pay for the upkeep of the area.

Askrigg is a small village and civil parish in Wensleydale in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. It was formerly a part of the Richmondshire district of North Yorkshire, England. The village and its parish are located in Upper Wensleydale, 12 miles (19 km) west of Leyburn, and 5 miles (8 km) east of Hawes.
