So, Velstadt is supposed to be protecting the defenseless hollowed Vendrick but when we arrive and begin the boss fight he has the same effect on screen as Nashandra does which implies he's "evil" or related to the dark. Velstadt at least has been in the the dark of the Undead Crypt for a long time and uses hexes. The Watcher and Defender have been locked away behind the King's Gate ever since Vendrick fled and they use no dark magic at all (both even use miracles). Maybe they were turned by Nashandra and that's one of the reasons Vendrick had to flee? ScioX
