Potamos Beach is a popular beach but is also calm and peaceful. Situated on the east of the Malia port in Crete, it is named after the Potamos River, a small stream that flows at its eastern end. The 700 m long beach is picturesque with its warm sands and crystalline clear waters. Umbrellas, sunbeds, toilets, showers, and also a few water.

The main beach of Malia is located in front of the town and is crowded by thousands of people. Thus, those who cannot stand the crowds and congestion prefer to go to one of the sandy beaches located east of the port of Malia, very close to the site of the palace of Malia.The easternmost beach is known as Potamos (i.e. River), because a small stream flows in its east part, next to the wetland.

Potamos Beach is a hidden jewel of Gavdos Island. You can visit the beach on foot from Ampelos village. It's about 50 minutes walk downward and 1 hour walk upwards. It's a fact that small yatchs visit the beach as well through the day. It's a perfect choice to hike and enjoy nature. I loved the beach because -the water was deep blue and perfect.

The beach of Potamos can be accessed primarily by hiking 1.5-2 hours from Ambelos.Before Ambelos you must visit the lighthouse of Gavdos at an altitude of 368m, which has turned into a small museum and coffee shop. Good view amaising beach. Jul 2018 • Family. There is a very large beach with fine sand and cristal water. There are a lot of bars but only a fish tavern. Umbrelas and sunchairs are available with consumation from the bars. Baleine is one of the central bar very well positioned and where the beach is cleaned every day.
