The alley of 30 Baroque statues (most of them) and statuaries situated on the balustrade forms a unique connection of artistic harmony with the underlying Gothic bridge. Most sculptures were erected between 1683 and 1714. They represent various saints and patron saints worshipped at that time.

Charles Bridge is built of sandstone blocks and it's construction is surrounded by many interesting legends. According to one of those, the builders decided to strengthen the bridge by adding raw eggs into a mortar. Historians still has not come to any conclusive agreement whether it is true or not.
