The actual Castillo de Lizar is an old, warn down settlement looking over Frigiliana, and Nerja in the distance. The views, I think, are better from El Fuerte (if you're fit enough for a 4hours trek), or Vista Panorama in the town. Occasionally you'll find a donkey or two, grazing here, as there is a farm next door, but they're harmless.

A bit of History: Frigiliana dates back 3000 years before Christ. The Phoenicians were the first major civilization to settle here (around 700 BC) followed about 500 years later by the Romans (around 200 BC). It was the Romans that built the hilltop castle (Castillo de Lizar). But it was the Moors who really left their mark on Frigiliana.

Del Castillo apenas quedan algunos restos de muros y cimentación. Esto se debe a que esta importante defensa árabe fue destruída por los ejércitos cristianos en 1569.
