La Orotava is one of the most beautiful towns on the island of Tenerife, and one of the best places to visit in north Tenerife. To this day, it's the only place in the Canary Islands that has preserved most of its old town. For this reason, it was declared a National Artistic Historic Site in 1976.

Valle de la Orotava is a DO/DOP ("Denominacion de Origen Protegida", or Protected Denomination of Origin) in northwestern Tenerife, the largest of Spain's Canary Islands. The "valle" (valley) takes its name from the historic town of La Orotava. The verdant Valle de la Orotava officially received its official DO title in 1995.
